Born in Malaysia 1949, Allegra Biggs-Dale lived in a number of south East Asian countries before migrating with her parents to Southern California in 1958. Her love of competitive surfing took her to Hawaii for tertiary study where she obtained Science and Education degrees from the University of Hawaii. Whilst living on Oahu and the big island of Hawaii,  Allegra taught school, founded Fitness Works, played soccer and performed in community theatre. After recruitment to a corporate fitness centre in San Francisco, Allegra also joined  photographer Dewitt Jones to work as part time assistant thus inspiring a new hobby.

Settling on Bruny Island, Tasmania in 1991 came many years after residing and working in Indonesia, climbing volcanoes, deep sea diving and international yacht racing with her husband, Adrian Dale. Her interest in macro-photography began in tandem with her passion, the study of native orchids on their Land for Wildlife property, ‘Labillardiere Estate’. Of her work Allegra says '...my intent is to alert the onlooker to the beauty that abounds with each step we take, the orchids microscopic aura, and that moment during which the orchid and my being unite.'

Allegra commenced exhibiting her macro-photography in 2003 at the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, Discovery Centre. The success of this exhibition has proven to be a springboard for exhibiting in a range of venues including the Tasmanian Land Conservancy, Handmark Gallery, the Salamanca Arts Centre - Long Gallery, Henry Jones Art Hotel, CAST, Allport State Library and IXLdesign, Hobart and Botanic Gardens in NSW.

Images are held in private collections in Australia and abroad.
